Crystalcello MV100 1/16 Size Violin with Carrying Case + Bow + Accessories - Natural Color Review

Crystalcello MV100 1/16 Size Violin with Carrying Case + Bow + Accessories - Natural Color

Good product considering the price. One of the tuning pegs would not stay, the string would never tighten completely. Within a week the peg broke while we were trying to get it to stay. However, we (the parents) are not experienced with violins and accept the possibility that we may not have been interpreting the directions correctly. Also, we did not attempt to contact the seller for a replacement, so I cannot comment on how they might respond to such a request. The remainder of the pegs work fine. The one major complaint I have is that the violin took a very long time to arrive; they did announce that there may be a delay, hopefully this was just a temporary problem.

Pirastro Obligato 4/4 Violin String Set - Medium Gauge - with Ball-end E Review

Pirastro Obligato 4/4 Violin String Set - Medium Gauge - with Ball-end E
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just ordered my second pair of the Obligatos. They are great all around strings; much better than the Corellis I replaced. My first pair of Obligatos lasted a year and a half, then I noticed they weren't as responsive, and became more difficult to play. Actually, I was surprised they lasted that long. The new set was easy to break in (tuning stablizied within a week) and they have a great tone. (I think my violin would sound good with a lot of different brands of strings, however the obligatos really make a subtle difference to me, especially on sustained notes). They can make a really good violin sound great. I know they are expensive, but they last longer than traditional gut strings, and I love that they stay in tune. I ordered mine through Johnson String Instruments, and I received them within a week of ordering them. (I know JSI was a few dollars more than their competitors, but they have great service--this is my third order from them and I intend to order from them in the future.)
I wouldn't put the obligatos on a student level violin, but if you have a fairly decent violin ($5000-10,000 range) they are worth the price. If I could afford to change them out more frequently, I would, but they still sound great after a year and a half of playing about 10 hours per week.

JSI Special 4/4 Violin String Set: Gold Label Loop-End E & Dominant A, D, and G Strings - Medium Gauge Review

JSI Special 4/4 Violin String Set: Gold Label Loop-End E and Dominant A, D, and G Strings - Medium Gauge
Average Reviews:

Dominant is no question the standard for synthetic strings. Buy them and you'll understand. Worth the bucks. I gave them a four star because I play in a high energy country band and there are better options for me. Dominant has a beautiful sound but I play them too hard and the a unravelled after just a few weeks. Maybe that was my fingernails. But I think Larsen tzigane sound better. I am liking zyex for my needs as they are loud and have a great response. And they're less expensive. I imagine classical players will like these strings very much.

D'Addario Pro Arte 4/4 Violin String Set Medium Gauge Review

D'Addario Pro Arte 4/4 Violin String Set Medium Gauge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I discovered these strings by accident a couple of years ago when I broke a violin string and had no spares. A local music store had Pro Arte medium tension strings in stock and they were inexpensive, so I figured that I would buy a set as a stopgap until I could get a set of my preferred strings online.
I noticed right away that the strings come packaged in sealed pouches, which is a nice touch, and that the ends of the strings are nicely finished.
The sound is very sweet. A darker sound than many classical players prefer. I read another review that said that the reviewer hated the Pro Arte strings because they were dull. The reviewer was going back to Dominant strings. I find Dominant stings very loud, for sure, but it is a bright, glaring sound that I find that I am always trying to sweeten. I find Evah Pirazzi strings even louder and more glaring. If you, like me, find some of these more popular strings to be loud but overly glaring, you should try a set of the Pro Arte strings. The price is so good that trying them won't break the bank. I am hooked on these strings now and am glad to be saving so much money with each set.
I will try the Pro Arte heavy tension strings next.
Side remark: On their website, D'Addario publishes wonderfully clear tables showing the tensions (in pounds) of its various strings. So refreshing. Pirastro's site describes tensions only as soft, medium or thick. I prefer to know the actual tension.

When applied properly, this rosin is the best I have used. The bow grips the strings better and simply caused more and better sound to be produced.

Full Size 4/4 Student Violin W/ Case, Bow Natural Review

Full Size 4/4 Student Violin W/ Case, Bow Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my violin in a timely manner. This is definitely a starter violin for the first few years, but not to make a career out of playing this one. It came well packaged. They violin case is in better condition than I thought I would come in. The rosin doesn't seem to work all that well so I just bought some from a music store. It was a little hard getting the bridge on and I'm even familiar with putting bridges on instruments! I ended up having to shave it to fit the curve that I wanted because I kept playing on two strings at once. It wasn't too bad shaving some off. You just have to be careful. I would definitely recommend this to someone who just wants to fiddle with the violin or is first learning how to play.

I bought this item for my nephew for Christmas and he loved it! It is the perfect size for a 9 year old. Within an hour of opening he was already trying to learn with the accompanying materials. The case is also sturdy and very nice. It was shipped as a gift and the gift bag it was packaged in was a large blue velvet material with a yellow string, making it perfect as a Christmas gift! I was very pleased with this purchase.

Cecilio CEVN-4BK 4/4 Full Size Electric Silent Solidwood Violin w/ Ebony Fittings in Black Metallic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was pleased with the nice sound and durable construction of this instrument. The electronics aren't really high quality. Comes with a good case which is more than adequate for the instrument and an "ok" bow (I prefer to use a different one). With the power off, it still sounds like a very heavily muted violin which might be adequate for practice for some players.

Pirastro Gold Label 4/4 Violin E String - Medium - Steel - Loop End Review

Pirastro Gold Label 4/4 Violin E String - Medium - Steel - Loop End
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Pirastro Gold Label e string is a nice neutral e string that matches well with many string sets. It is mostly used with the Dominant G, D, A because it has a wonderful ringing tone, and stronger than the Dominant E string. It also works with Evah Pirazzi G, D, A and is nice and clear without shrieking like the Evah Pirazzi e can do.
By the way, it is a steel string, not a gold plated e-string. The "Gold Label" is a brand name.

ViolinSmart 1/4 Size Student Violin w/Bow, Case, and Rosin - Solid Natural Wood Review

ViolinSmart 1/4 Size Student Violin w/Bow, Case, and Rosin - Solid Natural Wood
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first tried to tune the violin I applied pressure to the D peg and the scroll broke from the fingerboard! It wasn't a lot of pressure so I assume there was a crack or a weak spot in the wood. Needless to say I contacted (emailed) customer support and was pleasantly surprised when they agreed to replace the violin at no charge (not even shipping)! The new violin arrived and I was able to tune it fine. My five year old son has been performing around the house almost everyday!
Now a word about the quality. Would I buy this brand to perform professionally? No. This is an inexpensive introduction to the violin - it is a massed produced product that I think is wonderful at this price. Beautiful to look at and my son loves it - nuff said.
