Flat Flesch 1/2 Violin Chinrest - Ebony with Standard Bracket Review

Flat Flesch 1/2 Violin Chinrest - Ebony with Standard Bracket

I bought this style of chinrest for our son because he tended to slide his chin toward the bottom of his current chinrest. It does touch the tailpiece ever-so slightly. But, his instructor told me it would not affect the violin.

Zoom G1XN Guitar Multi Effects Pedal Review

Zoom G1XN Guitar Multi Effects Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, so I bought this because my friend had an old Zoom multi-effects pedal and he recommended getting one. It's a solid pedal, but has a few drawbacks. First the positives:
Pros:
-Has a lot of room to store custom presets (up to 40, with 40 factory presets you can't permanently change). These are fun to create.
-Has many effects that are decent in quality, and gives a fair amount of control over them.
-Easy to use, came with wallet card explaining the readout, but this is unnecessary after a few days.
-Sounds very good through headphones.
-Comes with AC adapter.
-Pretty well priced. Definitely a good value.
Cons:
-The drum machine sucks. Boring and quiet, even at full volume.
-You can't run more than one effect from each section, which means you can't layer a lot of effects.
-The noise gate is really crappy. It does remove the noise while you're not playing (as a noise gate is supposed to) but when you stop playing the noise comes through for about half a second before fading out, and sometimes it dulls your pick attack. For those who know noise gates, the attack and release are pretty slow, with a hold that's too long for most of my guitar playing.
-The distortions are pretty lame. Many sound very similar and they're all a bit muddy, even when you adjust the EQ.
-The pitch bending effect is pretty poor, but not useless. It sounds shaky and poppy when you bend the pitch more than half an octave.
It'd be much better to get a different pedal for each effect this pedal creates, but that'd be really expensive. All in all, this pedal is great for beginning players or advanced players on a budget.

Bobelock Hill Style 1017 Semi-French Fitted Black/Blue 4/4 Violin Case Review

Bobelock Hill Style 1017 Semi-French Fitted Black/Blue 4/4 Violin Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the money, an outstanding case. Well-constructed for safety, velvet interior, cushy suspension, string tube, spring bow holders, and plenty of room in the three accessory boxes on the interior. One of the best exterior rain covers I have seen with ample room for a lot of music. A bit thin on the interior at the lower bouts of the instrument, and not much padding there -- but you won't find more unless you go up beyond the $600 range and above, and even then, is it variable. A far better value in craftsmanship and protection than more expensive cases, like the Negri Monaco, which I also have. At well over $300, the Negri is junk by comparison -- thin hard walls, thin felt interior (yes, felt!), very thin padding, practically zero suspension, no string tube, one accessory box with no proper hinge so that when you open it, it falls onto the scroll of your instrument if it is still in the case, and a cover that is paper thin and only water-resistant. The Boboleck is definitely a bargin and well-made -- I transferred my early 18th-century instrument from my 20-year-old jeager etui, which while still solid, has no suspension and compressed padding by now -- I feel completely confident in the ability of this case to protect my precious instrument.

Barcelona 1/2 Half Size Violin with Free Carrying Case - Natural Color Review

This violin was very nice for the price. However, it came missing a fine tuning screw and it took a couple of weeks of emailing the maufacturer to get resolution. WIthout it, I would have had to either send it back or have it repaired locally at a cost of about $25 - a lot when the item only cost $69.00!

Yamaha CPX500 Acoustic Electric Guitar, Old Violin Sunburst Review

Yamaha CPX500 Acoustic Electric Guitar, Old Violin Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great guitar. Well made and with quality materials and comes with metal "strings". Attractive looking...the sound hole has a nice inlay. The guitar comes conveniently with its own built in tuner so you can make a quick check before each play. Nice sounding with deep rich lower notes. I also have the APX500 and this (CPX500) definitely has a better sound in the lower range than the APX. The CPX is a good guitar for serious beginners too. It's nice sound encourages play. Yamaha makes two cases for this a cheaper one, GA01 and the better GA37. The guitar fits snugly in the GA37 and together, they are both quite heavy. The GA01 is quite light understandably since it is much less expensive.

The strings work great on my violin and when I emailed Thomastik Enfield about what rosin I should use, they sent me some free rosin they were sampling. They are not very loud, but my solid spruce violin is plenty loud for the music I play.

Good quality strings. Decent life, decent tone. These are more "comfortable" than some strings I have played. They won't make me a concert violinist, but they certainly cannot be blamed for any lack of prowess.
A good balance between value and price.

Works fairly well. Better than expected, truth be told. But not as quickly as you might expect. Can't imagine not having this nifty help meet--slipping pegs are very frustrating and this product is a boon. Take it with you, everywhere you take your fiddle/violin.

Yamaha APX500FM Acoustic Electric Guitar, Old Violin Sunburst Review

Yamaha APX500FM Acoustic Electric Guitar, Old Violin Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very attractive guitar and appealed to me because of the price point and the positive reviews I had seen of this instrument. However it was not a good fit for me and was returned.
I had 2 issues.
1. Frets are pretty small and I was struggling to form chords that I can play with ease on my Fender Stratocaster.
2. There is a lack of bass when playing this guitar acoustically, probably due to it's slimmer body.
Overall I would not recommend buying any guitar unless you try it out first in store. I made that mistake with this guitar. Go to your local store, check out the different guitars you are interested in. Once you have a couple shortlisted go online and see if you can get a better price.

Giardinelli Master Violin Care Pack with Chin Cushion Review

Giardinelli Master Violin Care Pack with Chin Cushion
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Giardinelli Master Violin Care Pack with Chin Cushion
OK, first I'm going to complain then I shall compliment. First off I didn't get the red cloth that is shown above; second, I didn't get a pretty light blue chin cushion (I got a gray ugly one instead); third, I received a thing of dark rosin instead of the light one shown above (dark rosin is for colder climates not for warmer climates, light is for warmer climates like where I...I...I am!). I received the promised pouch, yellow soft cloth, peg grip drops, polish, duster, and that metal thing. Compliments, eh, I might tell those one day the only compliments I have for this so far is it's useful, but not what I (emphasizes the I) wanted or was expecting!

I am really happy with this violin holder. It looked slightly flimsy out of the box, but it holds my instruments and bows really well. Even when the animals and kid run into it, my instrument stays put.
It cliped right onto my stand with no problems.
I am a very happy customer.

Stagg Folding Wire Music Stand with Carrying Bag Review

Stagg Folding Wire Music Stand with Carrying Bag
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Wire Music stand is exactly what it states, a wire music stand.
The extension pieces for the stand, to enable it to be folded out, are of a thin wire like material. With extended use, it is possible that this is a stand that you cannot expect to last for a very long time. I guess the old saying "You get what you pay for" holds true here.
After some playing around with mine I finally got it to unfold. The supports for the top piece were you place the music, are pretty weak and were not caught together. I was actually afraid I was going to break it trying to get it to unfold the first time. I can see that if you place anything that is very heavy on this it could bend, or possibly break.
As for sturdiness, I would say it is pretty sturdy. I have not placed anything really heavy on it, but if you do, I can see that it could tip over. Even when you extend it there is a wing nut that tightens to hold it at the correct angle, but it is tightened onto a thin piece of metal. The base of the top, is pretty thin also. Basically don't put anything too heavy, or any really thick music book on this stand.
There are also page holders that fold over to hold down your pages. I find this very useful for my music books.
The legs are probably the strongest part of the whole thing. As long as you don't hit the stand, or put anything too heavy it should stay pretty sturdy. It holds up to my page turning and pressing the pages under the page holders.
The case is pretty good. It holds the folded up stand very well. You have to be sure to fold it up correctly to get it into the bag. It also comes with a strap that can be used for carrying.

Over all I am satisfied with the purchase. It performs what I want it to do and it was fairly cheap. I would have like to see a little more sturdy construction than it is. Overall if you are looking for something short term, longer term with proper care, this is a good cheap option. I would also recommend this item to any parent with a child taking up a music instrument. A parent may not know if their child will want to stick with the instrument for a long time, and they may not want to put a lot of money into a stand. That is where this could be of benefit.
